What it means

-(으)ㄹ 것이다 expresses future plans, predictions, or assumptions. The most formal way to express the future in Korean. Colloquially shortened to -ㄹ 거예요.

Nuance & when to use

갈 거예요 = I'm going to go (colloquial future). 갈 것이에요 = I will go (slightly more formal). 비가 올 거예요 = It's going to rain (prediction). 잘 될 거예요 = It will work out (encouragement). This construction is essential — used constantly in Korean speech.

⚠ Common mistake

-겠어요 and -ㄹ 거예요 both express future but differ. 갈게요 = I will go (commitment, speaker's decision). 갈 거예요 = going to go (plan/prediction). 갈 것 같아요 = seems like will go (softer, uncertain).

Example sentences

내일 비가 올 거예요. Naeil biga ol geoyeyo. It will rain tomorrow.
